Wild and Unpredictable

Is wild and unpredictable variation in subject matter a good thing or not?  I sure hope so.  On one hand, it keeps the creative juices flowing, and keeps me in practice.  On the other hand, I think I skip over things too quickly, and don't take the time to absorb the lessons I learn from drawing a single subject multiple times over.
Keep drawing, keep practicing.  That much I know is true.

Hawks and Vultures: Progress

Progress on the painting!  In other news, posts will be pretty sparse for the next week or so, apologies in advance.

Digital Robot Villainess

Concepts for a lady robot with artistically villainous inclinations.  She's like a make-up artist combined with a digital illustrator, a pumped-up ego to match, and a deep desire to gain a following of millions, either through subtle digital machinations or overt displays of nanomachine-assisted superpowers.

Pugnacious Watercolor Resist

This is Allison.  She's an illustrator with superpowers, and, if everything goes right, will be in a story of her own someday.  Right now, thought, she still needs a backstory, some idea of what her powers are, and more cool spell names, of course.

These are the sketches I made to finalize the concept for the Grouper probe from Battle-Nauts.  The idea was to evoke something bulky and slightly goofy-looking, but still intimidating–basically, the look of the actual grouper fish.  A cylindrical body with bevel edges and a tapering tail suggested the "space fish" look, it was putting the proper solar panels on it that was the trouble.

Battle-Nauts Process

Sketches from the development of the Battle-Nauts cover.  While the final image's composition was different from all of the thumbnails, I believe drawing the thumbnails put my mind in the right gear for composing the cover.

So...

Let's see if I can get this blog thing rolling.
Name's Gabe.  I got hooked on creating crazy, fantastic stories and characters as a kid.  Currently polishing my illustration and writing skills, with the aim of making a career out of them.
Enjoy the art, and thanks for dropping by.
