Crimson Clouds Sunset

I'm lucky enough to have a park nearby where I can go and watch the sun set.  I've taken a lot of pictures there; this is a painting based off one of them.  I like the colors, the shapes not so much, they feel clunky and clumsy, compared to the real clouds.  It is, however, one more step on the road to accurately portraying the ephemeral, frail, subtle beauty of the clouds and the sky.

Portrait of Joakim

A bit of shameless fan art of Joakim Brodén, lead singer of my favorite power metal band, Sabaton.  This was painted from a still from their video footage of their show at Poland's Woodstock Festival in 2012.

Cedar Waxwing in Flight

It shames me to say it, but I had never seen a picture of the cedar waxwing until a few days ago.  I misidentified a northern flicker, of all things, as a waxwing, and was corrected.  I looked up the cedar waxwing, saw that seamless gradation of gray-brown to misty blue, and knew I had to paint it.

First Painting 2016

Happy New Year!

A rooster seems like the appropriate subject to paint on the first Sunday of 2016.  I saw this guy running around in Bothell WA's Country Village a few years back.  He was just hanging out, pecking at the gravel, strutting his stuff, and showing off his bad self in a perfectly sunny morning.  I snapped a photo of him, found it again last night, and hammered this out in a couple hours.  Photo reference is a good, good thing.
